Ship Collision in West Bengal, India

A cargo vessel bound for Kolkata rammed into the belly of another ship moving in the opposite direction near Nurpur in South 24-Parganas on Tuesday morning. Both container ships MV Tiger Spring and MV Green Valley were damaged, but there was no loss of life, said Kolkata Port Trust officials. Had the river pilot on one of the vessels not taken immediate action and shifted it to a sandbank near the shore, the ship may have sunk, blocking the sole navigation channel that connects Kolkata Dock System with Sandheads.

From one collision to another.. A Sydney ferry and a speedboat collision on Parramatta River has resulted in injuries to all six of the speedboat passengers. The accident occurred at Meadowbank Wharf at about 4.35pm on October 7 when a ferry and a speedboat collided about 100 metres from the shore.

The death toll from an Indian ferry accident has risen to eighteen. A ferry that only had capacity for 60 was carrying 150 people across Murigangan River outside of Kolkata in India’s West Bengal state.
