China shows interest in Chesapeake Energy Shale and Gas

Chesapeake Energy’s shale and oil gas drilling project has become an interest for a Chinese energy conglomerate.

Explosion in Egypt pipeline cuts off Gas supply to Israel

An explosion today on the Arab Gas Pipeline forced Egypt to shut off natural gas supplies to Israel and Jordan.

Shell announced that they’ve cancelled their plans to drill exploratory wells in the Arctic in 2011 due to lack of confidence that they would meet the standards to get the required permits,” Oceana enthusiastically reported yesterday.

India Oil to build $5 Billion refinery in Turkey

Indian Oil Corp is interested in building a $5 billion refinery in Turkey and is currently carrying out feasibility work on the project, India’s junior trade minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said on Friday.

GE Oil & Gas is pleased to announce it has been issued orders to supply seven subsea tree and wellhead systems, utilizing the VetcoGray MHXT tree and VetcoGray SG-5 wellhead system, by Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited for deployment in the U.K. North Sea.

OTTO ENERGY Ltd. has already received the first $1.5 million from another Australian firm Swan Oil and Gas Ltd. to fund the drilling of the onshore Duhat 1 well in San Isidro, Leyte.

The East African region has vast reserves of oil and natural gas which it could tap to boost its economic growth.

The total value of oil and gas transactions announced globally reached $270 billion in 2010, according to Ernst & Young’s Global oil and gas transactions review 2010.

Otto Marine to buy Go Marine

Singapore-based offshore firm Otto Marine’s subsidiary, Otto Ventures (OVPL) has signed a deal with Australia’s Go Marine Group that gives OVPL the option to acquire 100 percent of Go Marine in three tranches for a total of AU$20 million (US$20 million).

Diamond Offshore Drilling has exercised its option to build a second ultra-deepwater drillship with Hyundai Heavy Industries with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2013.

Petrobras has made a new discovery of good quality oil in the pre-salt reservoirs of block BM-S-9, in the ultra deep waters of Santos Basin.

BP’s profit boosts

BP boosted its profit in the fourth quarter last year to US $4.614 Billion compared with $3.447 Bn a year ago on a replacement cost basis. For the full year 2010 BP’s profit figure nosedived however to $4.914 Bn, compared with $13.955 Bn in 2009.

Rig giant Ensco says one of the upgraded semi-submersibles in its fleet is headed for Brazil under a new 950-day drilling deal starting in the third quarter this year worth up to US $30.4 million.

Riots in Egypt close Mærsk operations

A.P. Møller-Mærsk has temporarily shut down most of its operations in Egypt. The Egyptian government has closed down most of the communication traffic and the food supply chain is not operating as usual due to the riots in the North African country.  More than 12 million passengers travelled via Port of Stockholm’s three ports in Stockholm, Kapellskär and Nynäshamn in 2010 – a new record. On January 31, 2011, the keel was laid for an Antarctic research and supply vessel ordered by the South African Department of Environmental Affairs at STX Finland Rauma shipyard.

Chinese shipbuilding output volume rises

According to China Ministry of Industry and Information technology, China shipbuilding orders completed in 2010 reached a volume of 65.6 million dead weight tons up by 54.6%YoY.­­ The Dutch shipping company ANTHONY VEDER (Rotterdam) has ordered a new LNG carrier from MEYER WERFT. The final stages of construction of Austal’s largest catamaran to date were celebrated this week with a traditional ‘coin ceremony’, followed by the vessel’s successful launch.
