Major oil discovery in Mozambique

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. said that it will consider developing liquefied natural gas facilities in Mozambique following the discovery of offshore fields in the area. Salamander Energy PLC said its Angklung-1 exploratory well off East Kalimantan, Indonesia, is a commercial gas discovery in Lower Pliocene sandstone and also discovered an Upper Miocene oil play.

Hapag Lloyd on solid ground

Hapag-Lloyd has announced that revenue and earnings have increased considerably both in the third quarter and in the first nine months of 2010. A containership has started sinking in Hooghly River, Kolkata, after it collided with another container vessel on November 23 in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district. Horizon Lines, a United States domestic ocean shipping and integrated logistics company, announced it will launch express intermodal container service to key inland US cities when it begins the new Five Star Express trans-Pacific liner service in December.

BP wins oil and natural gas production contract in Indonesia

BP Plc announced that it had been awarded oil and gas production contract in the Papua Province of Indonesia and will be commencing seismic operations on the block in the coming months. Given the challenges facing the oil and gas industry today, there is greater need for effective risk management and controls. After the recent global financial crisis and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, financial challenges, regulatory pressure and long-term risks pose significant threats.
