Florida for ‘Ban on Offshore Drilling’

Florida’s special legislative session starts next week to consider a constitutional ban on offshore oil drilling. Governor Charlie Crist called a short session from July 20th to the 23rd because he wanted lawmakers to focus on that single issue.

A giant Taiwanese oil skimmer has collected 6.3 million gallons of oily water from the Gulf of Mexico as tests continue to prove its worth in the cleanup effort.

Brazil said it started drilling a second well at its offshore Libra oil field after a “mechanical problem” forced it to abandon a previous attempt to assess the size of the deepwater reserves.

Offshore Drilling should be stopped ??

A couple of weeks ago, the newly named co-chairman of the presidential commission William K. Reilly was appointed to investigate the BP oil spill, he thought that the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico was necessary – and also felt that 6 months was too little.

Maine and Nova Scotia have signed an agreement to work together on generating electricity from the ocean.

Both of BP’s partners in its blown-out Gulf well have turned their backs on the company, refusing to pay to help clean up.

New offshore Driling Oil moratorium.

The Obama administration issued a new moratorium Monday on deep-water offshore drilling that no longer bans operators by the depth of water they’re operating in and stresses new evidence of safety concerns, hoping the revised ban will pass muster with the courts after the initial one was rejected.

The oil industry and Obama administration are set to face off in a New Orleans federal appeals court today in the latest round of a high-stakes legal battle over a drilling ban that has idled deep-water rigs across the Gulf of Mexico.

Transocean is the world’s largest offshore drilling company, but until its Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in April, few Americans outside the energy business had heard of it. It is well known, however, in a number of other countries — for testing local laws and regulations.

It’s time to stop blaming BP — alone. At least four other oil companies hired the same firm to write their plans for handling spills in the Gulf of Mexico.

Texas group will look at oil, natural gas drilling

World’s biggest Skimmer to clean up oil spill
