Carnival Corporation to consolidate its cruise brands over the next five years.

Global cruise giant the Carnival Corporation has announced that the company has decided to consolidate its various cruise brands over the next five years.

OMSA supports efforts to expand offshore energy to create jobs in the US.

The Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA), the association representing the owners and operators of the US Flag supply vessels that support offshore energy, has issued the following statement on the US Government’s announcement to increase offshore energy production from oil, gas or renewable sources.

According to US Geological Survey (USGS) assessments about 1669 trillion cubic feet (47 trillion cubic metres) of gas still remains to be found inside the Arctic Circle.

The planned activities include drilling of up to four exploration wells. The BM-C-34 licence is located in the Campos basin, 150km offshore of Brazil, with water depths from 2,300 to 2700 metres.

Chinese shipyards took full advantage of their low-cost edge over rival shipbuilding nations Korea and Japan. In 2009, China beat Korea to the shipbuilding top spot, having won 44.4 percent of all new orders compared with Korea’s 40.1 percent.

South Korea’s STX Group has submitted a bid to acquire fellow Korean shipbuilder, Daehan Shipbuilding.

The Lake Charles Pilots, which operates on the Calcasieu ship channel in southwestern Louisiana, has taken delivery of its third pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding.

Drydocks World clinches new building and conversion orders worth more than US$200 million

Southeast Asia (DDW-SEA), the southeast Asian subsidiary of Drydocks World, has clinched newbuilding and conversion orders worth more than US$200 million since the start of this year.

ST Engineering announced that its US shipyard VT Halter Marine Inc. has signed a contact with subsidiaries of Overseas Shipholding Group Inc. to build two 8,000 ATB tugs worth over $21 m.

Qatar Gas Transportation Company [Nakilat] on behalf of Nakilat-Damen Shipyards Qatar [N-DSQ] yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Petroleum for the provision of 19 vessels including harbor tugs, pilot and service boats at the port of Mesaieed.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network completes acquisition of Verbeke Bunkering

The Board of Directors of Belgium has approved the company’s results for the year ending December 31, 2009, which, it said, was in line with the results announced at the end of January 2010.

BG Freight Line launches direct service linking Teesport, UK with Rotterdam

Rotterdam-based BG Freight Line has launched a second weekly direct service linking Teesport, UK, with Rotterdam to meet rising demand on the route.

Singapore’s state-owned shipping company Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has reported a 37 percent growth in container volume in the four weeks to March 5.

Maersk Line will adjust its Trans-Pacific 6 service (TP6) to add a direct, all water call from South Vietnam to the US West Coast.
