Evergreen in talks withTaiwan, Korea and Japan to build twelve new boxships.

Taiwanese container shipping line, Evergreen, is in talks with shipyards in Taiwan, Korea and Japan to build up to twelve new boxships.

Lloyds Chartering has announced that it will establish the Lloyds Containership Pool (LCP), the first independent and open pool for containerships trading in the short-term period market.

“2009 presented the worst market conditions ever experienced in the container shipping industry,” commented C C Tung, the Chairman of OOIL, when announcing the group’s 2009 financial results.

San Marco Shipyard delivers RAstar 2700 series tug

The San Marco Shipyard delivered the first RAstar 2700 series tug, ‘Cheradi’ to its owners, Rimorchiatori Napoli, in late September 2009.

T&T Bisso used the ‘Curtis T’ to prepare the sunken tug for lifting after its dive team recovered the body of a missing crewmember onboard the vessel.

Smit Internationale has reported a net profit of US$139.2 million compared with US$146.8 million in 2008. EBITDA for the year was US$271.9 million (2008: 273.7 million), operating results for the year amounted to US$142.7 million.

Cruise industry is on a high as a variety of new ships enter the market.

Dredging giant Jan De Nul can well see the benefits of the Damen Stan Tug 1606, often dubbed the workhorse of the industry, with eleven Stan Tugs joining its fleet in the last few years.

This cruise season Sydney has welcomed four maiden visits into port, with the fourth, ‘Princess Danae’, berthed at Darling Harbour Wharf 8 Passenger Terminal.

The cruise industry is rebounding judging from cruise bookings, price increases and a variety of new ships entering the market, But the report added that the same is not the case for builders of cruise vessels.

Ensco sells two jackup drilling rigs ENSCO 50 and ENSCO 51

Ensco International has announced that its subsidiary company has sold two jackup drilling rigs, ‘ENSCO 50’ and ‘ENSCO 51’. Both are F&G L-780 MOD II-C designs built in the early 1980s.

François Perrodo, Chairman of Perenco, and Adolphe Moudiki, the Executive General Manager of the (Camaroon) National Hydrocarbons Corporation (NHC), have signed a production sharing contract for oil exploration in the Elombo block (former Ebodje permit) situated offshore in the Douala/Kribi-Campo basin, with a surface area of 2,405 square kilometres.

Bourbon has reported a net income of US$213 million for the full year 2009. Revenue growth for the year reflected two contrasting changes; the strong growth in offshore division revenues.

Incat Crowther launches a new 29 metre utility catamaran.

Incat Crowther has launched its new 29-metre utility catamaran, ‘Limitless’. ‘Limitless’ is the 50th vessel built by Richardson Devine Marine and debuts the latest evolution of Incat Crowther’s hull form.

Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP), a manufacturer of commercial and government watercraft, has introduced the eleven-metre 370 Justice model, the largest Boston Whaler model ever built.

In early 2010 Destini (Destination Marine Services) delivered the final boat in an initial production run of four 60-knot interceptor craft to the Royal Malaysian Customs.

Maersk Line awarded a nine month charter worth US 8.6 million.

The US Department of Defence this week awarded Denmark-based Maersk Line a nine-month charter contract worth US$8.6 million.

Indonesian shipyards makes hay while the sun shines.

Indonesian yards have yet to report a single newbuilding cancellation, according to a Transport Ministry official.

Pipeline Industries Guild Award for Germanischer Lloyd.

At a ceremony in Busan, Korea on Thursday, March 12, the Chairman and CEO of the Korean Register, together with over 300 VIP guests, formally broke the ground to start construction of KR’s new head office.

The Pipeline Industries Guild (PIG) Award was given to Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for its contribution to utility pipeline technology for their Burstfinder Technology at the 53rd annual awards ceremony in London on March 12.
